The Wilmington Railroad Museum Library is dedicated to the history and preservation of American railroading. The bulk of our holdings document the history of railroad from its beginnings in 1830s to the 1990s, which place the history of the railroad in the broad context of social, cultural, political, and economic trends in the United States of America. We also have a special section that deals with local railroad lines especially the Atlantic Coast Line and Seaboard.
One note. The majority of employee records were not maintained. We have a very limited amount of infomation, mostly names and addresses with some dates of employement for a limited number of employees. If you are doing geneological research, consider other items that may have included your family member on the railroad such as an award, retirement, or accident that would have been documented for general purposes.
Research Requests
The museum is open to visiting researchers by appointment only. Researchers visiting the Library only are not charged admission to the museum. Please complete the form below and email it to [email protected] for an appointment.
Once your research registration request is received, you will be contacted about your project and scheduling an appointment. Appointments must be made at least one (1) week in advance. Please notify us if you need any special accommodations.
